The Suno accent trick: coaxing a regional ornament out of AI — and what it can't fake

Context: this is a footnote to the main post about “Gaiczek zielony” (Gloger 1892) — A song for my wife from Podlasie. There the local PIX DS 3 voice sings the dialect correctly but “doesn’t drawl” — because the drawl lives in voice-leading, not in letters or notes. All recordings are AI-generated.

If the drawl is missing, can you suggest it without training a new voice — just two cheap tricks on Suno?

The trick — two moves

1. Name the singing style explicitly. Suno’s style box takes a description of vocal manner, not just genre. Instead of “polish folk song,” be specific:

white voice, open throat, drawn-out falling vowels,
portamento, rubato, a cappella in the manner of a village singer

2. Stretch the vowels in the lyrics themselves. The model sings what it sees — so write the drawl straight into the words:

Gaaai-cek zieee-loony, piee-knie przystroojony…

The result

With the trick — drawl by prompt — full song, 7 verses, stretched vowels + "white voice"

Something showed up. Next to a flat, “plain” render, the hacked version has clearly more life.

What it can’t fake

It’s a costume, not an accent. You get a generic folk drawl, not the specific Podlasie one. It sounds “folky,” but it doesn’t sound like Tykocin.

Drawl and fidelity pull in opposite directions. The harder you stretch the vowels, the more Suno takes over the pronunciation its own way — and the dialect blurs. You can’t max out both at once.

When the trick actually works

The same trick worked better on Podhale.

Podhale — the same hack (highlander "wailing") — Od Krościenka, stretched vowels + highlander white voice

The reason: in Podhale the ornament sits in the melody too (the raised fourth of the góralska scale, modal cadences, an asymmetric rhythm) — so the prompt has something to land on. In Podlasie the character lives only in the voice-leading, so the prompt hangs in a vacuum.

The moral

A prompt can dress AI in a regional costume, but you can’t prompt your way to grandmother’s voice. The trick wins when you want the vibe and the ornament is already in the melody. To truly drawl in the Podlasie style, you’d need a voice trained on real Podlasie singing.
